Another Month Goes By

Once again another month goes by without any posts by the AMG. Its been a slow time lately for the AMG music with all its main members frantically completing various work and study related assignments.

However, there a few updates that I can type up for everyone. But first I'll throw down the names of four more bands that are worth checking out.

The 4 Bands of the Month are:
1. Arc of Ascent
---a New Zealand stoner doom band that is basically brilliant
2. Quantum Heresy
---another recent djent band that follows the trends that are becoming pretty damn popular
3. Behindert
---a solo project that is somewhere between the sound and styles of Keith Merrow and Chimp Spanner
4. Maigra
---a band that incorporates djent into groove, similar vocals to Devil Driver

Alright, now for the news. Two of the AMG bands have created their own MSN accounts and emails so that you can get in contact with them directly. Perhaps ask them to support at a gig or what have you.

As Paris Hilton would Say "Like, O. M. G."

Yea, its coming dreadfully close to a month since my last little post. Since then the bands of the asylum music group have done practically nothing but drink, smoke and die at the amount of university assignments due.

Thankfully one of these assignments involves a couple of the bands (The Blue Devil & Deconstructed Surface) having proper band photos taken, so some good comes out of it.

Other than that I recording of a live performance by Deconstructed Surface has turned up, and once I get ahold of it, I will upload it to mediafire and multiupload so you can download it for free. However, this is an unofficial recording. Whoever recorded it was in the bar at the time of the gig, so chances are it was done using a cellphone or dictaphone.

Ok so I need to catch up on the bands of the week posts. Screw introductions and descriptions; by now you should know that if I upload them as a band of the week, then they are bloodly good. And you should all go download them with out hesitation. Buy it, but yea, a few offer free downloads. Legend!

So heres 5 bands of the week to make up numbers, plus a bonus. :)

1. Vortice (djent, groove)
2. In-Quest (death, groove)
3. LiquorWorks (djent, progressive, atmospheric) official website
4. Periphery (djent, progressive, metalcore)
5. Proton Kinoun (atmospheric)

A note about Periphery...
The vocals absolute suck. If you can find, download (or buy) the deluxe edition. It has a 2nd cd with the instrumental versions of each song. Blew my mind. Brilliant. Just a shame they had to throw in this emo pussy shit vocals that djent bands seem to be doing.

Update

The first official practice for the new band by Chris and Matt is this Saturday, hopefully by the end of it they will have decided upon a name for the band as well as written the drums for Matts new djent song.

Also they plan on rewritting The Blue Devil song The Darkened Dawn, putting more progressive drums to it and altering the guitar parts slightly. As always all updates will be posted on here and any recordings will be made available for free download.

Thanks

Delay In The M.E. Project Release

Due to Matt Edwards pushing for the development of The Blue Devil and his newly formed Untitled djent project with Christain Geese (The Blue Devil), the release of The M.E. Project's upcoming album The Omega Scroll has been delayed.

Matt still hopes to put out the album by August however when he formed his solo project he always knew that it would take a back seat when it came to his other bands.

------------------------

The newest addition to the AMG, Christians and Matts untitled band is still looking for a permanent drummer. So if you live in Auckland, play drums and like Meshuggah give us an email.

The bands first non improvisational song is currently being structured and put together at this time. They hope to record the song within the next couple of weeks, and by that time hopefully have a drummer to put the drums to it. Otherwise its back to the trusty old drum machine.

As well as the new song being written by Matt, Chris and Matt have decided that due to the differing stlyes and technical expertise between the two bands they have formed that the song Through Hell, currently under the band name of The Blue Devil, will be performed by their new untitled band instead.

Ok, I'm releasing The Darkened Dawn in a 2 song pack for download. Obviously one track is The Darkened Dawn and the other track however is just an Intro. The intro is an electric, acoustic duo song that lasts about a minute. Its very lounge music style, you'll see.

Anyway, the whole point of this pack was to get it on Futuristic Metal, so hopefully it'll be up in the next week. Heres hoping.

The Blue Devil News

I've been thinking about this over the last few of days, but I'm beginning to think that we should take The Blue Devil somewhere that gets a little more recognition. And I'm thinking my favourite metal blog - Futuristic Metal.

Its a great place to find new bands and it has plenty of djent style music, so you know its good. However, I'm not sure if we should wait and change our name before or after I try to get us onto Futuristic Metal...

Anyway point is, look out for The Darkened Dawn on Futuristic Metal over the next few weeks or so, it may be there. :)

The Blue Devil Back Release

This post contains the link to the original version of The Blue Devil's Burnt Me To The Ground. The link is for the download of the improvisational song that started it all (well that one song, the first song fully completed by The Blue Devil).

To The Ground by Chris (guitar) and Matt (vocals) first recorded on the 22nd of August, 2009. It was then adapted for electric guitar and given a solid structure, it eventually became the song Burnt Me To The Ground.

The lyrics from Burnt Me To The Ground are based on the improvised vocals in this recording.

The Asylum Music Group - The Best of 2009

As a 'starter pack' type thing for the new year I decided I would make a compilation of the AMG bands for one disc/cd. And well, here it is: The Best of 2009 by The Asylum Music Group.

The album consists of 12 songs from The Blue Devil (both Pre Dave and Dave eras), Birth of Sol, Zaryathus and The M.E. Project and totals out at 55 minutes 46 seconds.

Tracklisting:

1. Burnt Me To The Ground - The Blue Devil
2. The Dark Rift - Zaryathus
3. Through Hell (Rough Mix) - The Blue Devil
4. Extending To Nothing - Birth of Sol
5. The Saga of Horse Renwa - The Blue Devil (Pre Dave Era)
6. The Tail of The Vetenary Gynacologist - The Blue Devil (Pre Dave Era)
7. The M82 Syndicate - Zaryathus
8. My Daughter - The M.E. Project ft. Christian Geese
9. Whats on Christians Mind - The Blue Devil (Pre Dave Era)

The Darkened Dawn was/is The Blue Devil's first properly recorded song. Completed exactly 2 months ago today, so I thought it fitting for a little anniversary to release it on Mediafire. Personally I find it the best file sharing site. So why not. Well to be honest the whole 2 month this is a coincidence, and I just noticed it now while writing.

Anway the Darkened Dawn is some of the best crushing riffs that we've put out. With influences from Black Sabbath to Meshuggah this thing is a headbanging masterpiece.

Oh and by the way - we're bringing back the finger tapping solo. Its not used enough anymore.

The Blue Devil's name dilema

The Blue Devil are contemplating changing their name. The name The Blue Devil or TBD for short was brought in when the band consisted of just Chris and Matt. The days in which the music created by TBD was extremely progressive and influenced heavily by blues.

However with the band heading more towards the genre we call DDB (death, djent, blues), the name The Blue Devil does not have the same meaning anymore. Dont get me wrong, theres still a blues element to Matts guitar playing but with the coming of Dave on drums the music has begun to take shape and form, loosing part of the progressive and experimental aspects that it once had. It was these aspects that brought forward the blues influence in his guitar playing.

Now, with the beat of the drums to guide them and to give rhythm, the southern rock and death metal influences have come forth in Matts playing, while Chris is able to lay down the styles of Deftones and Meshuggah on his 7 string Schecter Omen.

Through Hell (Rough Mix)

And the moment you've all been waiting for...............

oh who am I kidding, chances are if you're reading this blog you're either part of the bands or accidently came here somehow. But its a good record for the future I guess.

Anyway, here is the link to download the rough mix of Through Hell. The Blue Devil's newest song, inspired by the likes of Meshuggah, Suffocation, Aborted and Necrophagist.

I suppose I should do a cover for it... well see. Its Christmas Eve, got sh*t to do.

Updates & Bla Bla Bla

Well it seems to have been a week since I last post anything on the blog. Pathetic I know but whatever. As Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth, Bloodbath) would say "If you dont like it, go f*ck yourselfs".

The Blue Devil: Through Hell (formerly Big Cock)

Anway we've spent the better of the last week drinking and at gigs so well I'll have to be excused for not poasting anything. Since my last post however we have finished writing the 'Big Cock' song, and renamed it (for now) to 'Through Hell'. We also spent a day recording this bitch of a thing. I only say that because our drummer was absent so I was left to write the drums. But at least we have a rough mix. Granted by the time I did the drums for the last riff, that we so named Meshuggah riff 2, I was extremely tired and couldnt be bothered. So yea they drums for the end of the song arent the best but it is a rough mix.
As always I will upload Through Hell (Rough Mix) for free download. Oh and yea the guitar solo is a little rough on it but hey whatever.

The Blue Devil's New Song

Out of some surge of inspiration Chris and Matt wrote an entire song (minus the drums & lyrics) a couple of days ago in one sitting. The song puts together a few of the biggest influences and favourite bands into one song, which will be recorded today - and the drums added to it later.

The song, so far titled Big Cock due to the energy drink we brought that day for a laugh (check out a pic of the can here), is a cross between two or three genres. Technically two, but three is a more accurate description. We can this new cross genre DDB, which is just an acronym for the genres/styles which are apparent throughout the song. Death, Djent, Blues.

Influences: Aborted, Bloodbath, Meshuggah, Suffocation, Johnny Winter and ZZ Top.

As far as lyrics and vocals are concerned the main vocals (verses) will be performed by Matt but at this point in time I believe that the chorus vocals may be done by Chris but that is yet to be confirmed. As for the theme/idea behind the lyrics Chris has suggested a journey through hell.

As always the recordings of this song will be uploaded and the links placed on this site for free download.

The Blue Devil News

The Blue Devil havnt been able to post much up lately and I apologise for that. If anybody even read or listens to our stuff, but hey.

Yea we're busy writing new music and trying to perfect our style. At this stage we seem to be drifting between different styles but havnt really produced anything thats completely what we want to hear ourselves play. Hell I was happy I finally got a band together that plays 1 song, but now we need to find our direction.

But as usual anything that we record will be uploaded for free download.

We do have a few things in mind, a couple of groove songs, another southern rock song, a few death metal songs and a doom/stoner song. And we may record White Sun, Red Star properly very soon, along with Burnt Me To The Ground.

So we'll just see how it goes.

The Blue Devil News

Just a little news update for The Blue Devil...

TBD have so far completed 2 songs - Burnt Me To The Ground and The Darkened Dawn (instrumental). Both of these are available for download. The original, acoustic, version of Burnt Me To The Ground has not yet been recorded but may very well be soon, and once recorded it will be uploaded for free download.

The Blue Devil have been working on 3 new songs, with the working titles Sands of Time, Blackmail and The Simple Truth.

Sands of Time, like Burnt Me To The Ground, is a hard rock type song. However it has a heavy southern influence, as with most of Matts guitar. Once again Matt will be performing vocals for Sands of Time but also playing lead guitar, while Chris plays rhythm and Dave does the drums. The guitar for Sands of Time is complete, but the drums have not yet been finished.

Blackmail, also written by Matt, Blackmail is a southern groove metal song influenced by bands such as Pantera, Lamb of God and Chimaira. As of yet, the guitar has not yet been completed however vocals will be performed by Chris, guitar by Matt and Dave on Drums.

The Simple Truth is another southern groove metal song in the process of been written by Matt. This song draws from influences such as Slayer, Byzantine and possibly a bit of Black Sabbath, as always. Vocals: Chris, guitar: Matt, drums: Dave.

When any of these songs are recorded in any form, rough mix or practice performance, they will be converted to mp3 and uploaded for free download.
