The Darkened Dawn was/is The Blue Devil's first properly recorded song. Completed exactly 2 months ago today, so I thought it fitting for a little anniversary to release it on Mediafire. Personally I find it the best file sharing site. So why not. Well to be honest the whole 2 month this is a coincidence, and I just noticed it now while writing.

Anway the Darkened Dawn is some of the best crushing riffs that we've put out. With influences from Black Sabbath to Meshuggah this thing is a headbanging masterpiece.

Oh and by the way - we're bringing back the finger tapping solo. Its not used enough anymore.

The M.E. Project's First Release

In this post you will find the cover of the upcoming album by The M.E. Project, The Omega Scroll as well as the link to the first track on the album, 'Overture'.

Overture sets the tone for the entire album which is a mix of Black Sabbath style doom, psychedelic and stoner/sludge metal. The link is for download from Mediafire, 320kbps.

The M.E. Project

Matt's solo project, i.e. The M.E. Project, is planning on releasing the first song from the upcoming album entitled 'The Omega Scroll'. Granted the song is the intro for the album, however it sets the tone for the entire disc.

Appropriately titled 'Overture' the 1min 26sec track sets the mood for the following slow, psychedelic, doom influenced riffs. The whole idea behind the solo project was to allow Matt to explore the other influences and musical styles that The Blue Devil doesnt cater to. Other than that, so Matt could just play around on the guitar more.

Overture will be released soon.

Band of The Week

Alright this weeks band of the week is definately for those that are fans of Meshuggah. Granted there are alot of bands out there that are influenced heavily by Meshuggah, such as Fellsilent, The Safety Fire, Mistaken Element or New Zealand band Set To End, but they never come close to the wonder that is Meshuggah. However this band seems to get the sound perfectly, including the vocal style.

Yea yea, at first when I heard these guys I thought it was Meshuggah and then when I found out it wasnt I labelled them as unoriginal and riding on the success of Meshuggahs greatness but once you actually get listening to them you can see their own style coming through. A different take on the djent style playing of Meshuggah.

Anyway, point being.... Check 'em out. They are good.

The band of the week is....

The Blue Devil's name dilema

The Blue Devil are contemplating changing their name. The name The Blue Devil or TBD for short was brought in when the band consisted of just Chris and Matt. The days in which the music created by TBD was extremely progressive and influenced heavily by blues.

However with the band heading more towards the genre we call DDB (death, djent, blues), the name The Blue Devil does not have the same meaning anymore. Dont get me wrong, theres still a blues element to Matts guitar playing but with the coming of Dave on drums the music has begun to take shape and form, loosing part of the progressive and experimental aspects that it once had. It was these aspects that brought forward the blues influence in his guitar playing.

Now, with the beat of the drums to guide them and to give rhythm, the southern rock and death metal influences have come forth in Matts playing, while Chris is able to lay down the styles of Deftones and Meshuggah on his 7 string Schecter Omen.

Through Hell (Rough Mix)

The Blue Devil Presents

Through Hell

A death metal song inspired by the likes of Aborted, Suffocation, Necrophagist and Meshuggah.

Credits:
Vocals: Matt (yet to be performed)
Backing Vocals: Chris (yet to be performed)
Guitar: Chris
Bass: Matt
Drums: Matt (will be performed by Dave at a later date)

Through Hell (Rough Mix)

And the moment you've all been waiting for...............

oh who am I kidding, chances are if you're reading this blog you're either part of the bands or accidently came here somehow. But its a good record for the future I guess.

Anyway, here is the link to download the rough mix of Through Hell. The Blue Devil's newest song, inspired by the likes of Meshuggah, Suffocation, Aborted and Necrophagist.

I suppose I should do a cover for it... well see. Its Christmas Eve, got sh*t to do.

Band of The Week

Screw this, lets just get straight into it this time. This band comes from Australia, and is considered Math Metal. They are extremely original and bloodly brilliant. They give off an awesome live performance and great sound. Krank and Marshall is a great mix!!

Anyway the four piece band formed in Melbourne in 2004, and since then have released 2 albums and are currently working on a third. Personally I think they should do a live album while touring after they release the up and coming release due around April 2010.

The band of the week is....

Updates & Bla Bla Bla

Well it seems to have been a week since I last post anything on the blog. Pathetic I know but whatever. As Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth, Bloodbath) would say "If you dont like it, go f*ck yourselfs".

The Blue Devil: Through Hell (formerly Big Cock)

Anway we've spent the better of the last week drinking and at gigs so well I'll have to be excused for not poasting anything. Since my last post however we have finished writing the 'Big Cock' song, and renamed it (for now) to 'Through Hell'. We also spent a day recording this bitch of a thing. I only say that because our drummer was absent so I was left to write the drums. But at least we have a rough mix. Granted by the time I did the drums for the last riff, that we so named Meshuggah riff 2, I was extremely tired and couldnt be bothered. So yea they drums for the end of the song arent the best but it is a rough mix.
As always I will upload Through Hell (Rough Mix) for free download. Oh and yea the guitar solo is a little rough on it but hey whatever.

The Blue Devil's New Song

Out of some surge of inspiration Chris and Matt wrote an entire song (minus the drums & lyrics) a couple of days ago in one sitting. The song puts together a few of the biggest influences and favourite bands into one song, which will be recorded today - and the drums added to it later.

The song, so far titled Big Cock due to the energy drink we brought that day for a laugh (check out a pic of the can here), is a cross between two or three genres. Technically two, but three is a more accurate description. We can this new cross genre DDB, which is just an acronym for the genres/styles which are apparent throughout the song. Death, Djent, Blues.

Influences: Aborted, Bloodbath, Meshuggah, Suffocation, Johnny Winter and ZZ Top.

As far as lyrics and vocals are concerned the main vocals (verses) will be performed by Matt but at this point in time I believe that the chorus vocals may be done by Chris but that is yet to be confirmed. As for the theme/idea behind the lyrics Chris has suggested a journey through hell.

As always the recordings of this song will be uploaded and the links placed on this site for free download.

New Band for AMG

A new band may be joining the ranks of the Asylum Music Group in the next few days. They have already made a few songs. And like always the bands music will be uploaded to the internet and the links posted on the AMG blog so that you can download it for free.

The band: Birth of Sol

Band of The Week

Alright its time for another band of the week post, and this week its actually going to be on time. Ha.

This band is a New Zealand band, who when they first came out I honestly didnt think twice about them, but after a few member changes and a bit of experience they have surely come a long way. This 5 piece metal band is definately worth checking out, especially their latest album: Carved & Created.

The Blue Devil News

The Blue Devil havnt been able to post much up lately and I apologise for that. If anybody even read or listens to our stuff, but hey.

Yea we're busy writing new music and trying to perfect our style. At this stage we seem to be drifting between different styles but havnt really produced anything thats completely what we want to hear ourselves play. Hell I was happy I finally got a band together that plays 1 song, but now we need to find our direction.

But as usual anything that we record will be uploaded for free download.

We do have a few things in mind, a couple of groove songs, another southern rock song, a few death metal songs and a doom/stoner song. And we may record White Sun, Red Star properly very soon, along with Burnt Me To The Ground.

So we'll just see how it goes.

Band of The Week

Right, band of the week time. Seems to be slack with posting lately. Oh well, so much to do and so little time.

Ok this band isnt exactly unknown but purely because I was at their gig last night and they were bloody awesome, I am going to put them as the band of the week for the week ending last sunday.

Their supporting act - Subtract - has been my band of the week earlier on, but today its a groove metal legend, and a band that every metal head should know and own all their albums.

So the band of the week is....

Band of The Week

Ok its time for another band of the week. First of all I'd just like to mention that the past month has been relatively slow for the bands of AMG, it being exam time and all. But now uni is over and were all on holiday until March.

So.... anyway the band of the week ending Sunday 29th November is described as progressive, ambient, math metal. I'll just call them f*cking awesome. I would recommend them to anyone who is a fan of Meshuggah, Tool or Deftones.

This unsigned Illinois band successfully cross the bridge between the heavy dominating riffs of Meshuggah & Keith Merrow with the softer vocsal style found in bands such as Deftones. But dont miss understand me, there is screaming.

The band of the week is...

The Blue Devil News

Just a little news update for The Blue Devil...

TBD have so far completed 2 songs - Burnt Me To The Ground and The Darkened Dawn (instrumental). Both of these are available for download. The original, acoustic, version of Burnt Me To The Ground has not yet been recorded but may very well be soon, and once recorded it will be uploaded for free download.

The Blue Devil have been working on 3 new songs, with the working titles Sands of Time, Blackmail and The Simple Truth.

Sands of Time, like Burnt Me To The Ground, is a hard rock type song. However it has a heavy southern influence, as with most of Matts guitar. Once again Matt will be performing vocals for Sands of Time but also playing lead guitar, while Chris plays rhythm and Dave does the drums. The guitar for Sands of Time is complete, but the drums have not yet been finished.

Blackmail, also written by Matt, Blackmail is a southern groove metal song influenced by bands such as Pantera, Lamb of God and Chimaira. As of yet, the guitar has not yet been completed however vocals will be performed by Chris, guitar by Matt and Dave on Drums.

The Simple Truth is another southern groove metal song in the process of been written by Matt. This song draws from influences such as Slayer, Byzantine and possibly a bit of Black Sabbath, as always. Vocals: Chris, guitar: Matt, drums: Dave.

When any of these songs are recorded in any form, rough mix or practice performance, they will be converted to mp3 and uploaded for free download.

Band of The Week

I apologise for the lack of posts over the last 12 days but for some reason the blog didnt want to accept anything. Anyway it seems to be allowing me to post now, although some of the formating options refuse to work but hey thats just symantics.

Anyway so the band of the week for the week ending sunday 22nd November....

Alright this band is Russian, and their vocals are in Russian. But this is metal, you dont always know what theyre on about when the vocals are in English so whats that matter. Personally I think its kind of awesome.

It terms of genre I'm not sure where to put them but the Russian wiki site lists them as 'Modern Metal' but personally I think the term modern metal is bullshit, it can apply to any band in the last 10 years but whatever. They are also listed as melodic death metal and metalcore, now that makes more sense, but theres something else in there. Anyway its bloodly great shit...so go check it out.

They formed in 2002 in Moscow and have released a few albums.

So...the band of the week this week is.....

БеZумные Усилия

Band of The Week

Ok the band of the week ending last Sunday...see this is what happens during exams, you start to get behind on posts...goes back to what this was originally going to be all about. That is good metal bands that probably dont get the recognition they deserve.

So this, well last weeks band of the week is a djent style band. i.e. influenced by Meshuggah haha. Search up djent in google if you need clarification on what it is - its a guitar technique.

Anyway, good Dutch heavy metal. Similar to Mistaken Element, Tesseract and Xerath this band uses both screamed and sung vocal styles over mind crushing riffs and beats.

This weeks band of the week is...

The upcoming Zaryathus Album Music of The Solar Winds is due to be released tomorrow, Tuesday 10th of November. So it should be up on the blog for free download within the next two days.

Band of The Week

This weeks band of the week, ending Sunday 8th November is again a little different than what most of the bands of the week will be. You would call them metal, maybe hard rock, but they definately incorporate the blues into their music. And yes theres a hell of alot of harmonica. Haha.

Anyway, they are definately worth checking out. Theyve been around since the 1990s and theyre still going so cant be too band eh?

Recommend Computer Programs For New Artists

This post is just about a few programs that I would recommend for any small time band or any sort of artist that wants to put some of their stuff together and record it, write it down, mix it, whatever you want.

Guitar Pro Version 5.2

Alright, Guitar Pro isnt exactly for recording anything but it is a great tool to have. It allows the user to write down their guitar riffs, bass riffs, drum beats and pretty much any other instrument including vocal pitch simulators into a single file. This means that you can write down your guitar riff (using the frets and strings on guitar pro) and then add drum beats etc etc to it. The playback option also allows you to get the general idea of what it will sound like to. Although I'm yet to find a very good guitar simulator.

You will be able to download and open of guitar pro files as well of other bands songs such as Lamb of God et etc from websites like Ultimate Guitar. Using the latest version (5.2) means you will be able to open any .gp* file.

Overall Guitar Pro 5.2 is a great tool for any one writting music or learning to play an instrument.

Sony ACID Pro

Sony ACID Pro is a recording and DAW (digital audio workstation). It allows you to record your music through the line in or usb ports on your computer. It can also be used for multitracking and mixing. At first it may seem a little difficult to use but after you fiddle around with it for a bit it is relatively easy.

Sony ACID Pro also has a variety of rendering options, from low quality bitrates to 320kbps in MP3 format, and a range of other formats such as WAV or M4a. You can also customise your own profile for rendering.

Acoustica Beatcraft

Acoustica Beatcraft is a drum machine program that allows the user to input everything and anything when it comes to the drums. This means every type of symbol and drum, along with more downloadable content, different styles of drums, tempos, beats per second, etc etc.

The sound created by Acoustica Beatcraft is also quite realistic. The beats that you create can be rendered in MP3s and other formats so that you can upload them to the internet as audio files, put them on your ipod to jam along to and so forth. The renderings can be in a variety of formats and bitrates.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I chose these three programs for one main reason. While other programs out there are great, even better than these, you can all find these on the internet to download (including serials or cracks). But I urge those of you who do download the program to trial it and if you like it, buy it or use free software.

Recommend but expensive software:
1) Drumkit From Hell
2) Pro Tools
3) Logic Pro

The Blue Devil Upload/Download

Alrighty then, the song, formerly known as, Legs is complete. Well as much as it can be for now. Chris has successfully recorded the majority of the guitar and the drums. Just one part that needs to be changed really, and thats the different sound from his guitar doesnt create the same effect in the part of the song where theres suppose to be a guitar scream/squeel.

Although, Kudos on putting it together and giving it a proper structure. The damn thing use to last anywhere between 2mins and 20minutes. More often that not it drifted towards the 20minute end, with 12 to 15 minutes being the standard.

Anyway.......... The Blue Devil - The Darkened Dawn is now ready for you to download.

Bandof The Week

First of all I would actually like to explain what the band of the week post is all about. Its nothing to do when the bands album was released or even if they have an album. Its more about just a band that may not be known by very many people but are good enough that they deserve world wide recognition.

So, this weeks band of the week goes to a band that is not exactly big, in fact I only stumbled across them by msitake. But I now have 3 of their three albums. The 3 man German band play a more industrial, progressive sort of metal. And the use of keyboards is not uncommon. For some reason they remind me a bit of Nevermore or even Strapping Young Lad, could be the vocals for the Nevermore similarity but I'm not sure. Anyway these guys are worth checking out.

The Band of The Week ending 1st November, 2009 is...

New Artist Joining The Asylum Music Group

A new artist is joining the Asylum Music Group.

Zaryathus (logo above) has just joined AMG and while the music is a little different to that of the other stuff on here, well its still part of AMG for the same reason as all the other bands are. We all know each other.

Band/artist name: Zaryathus
Genre of music: Sci fi hardhouse

Zaryathus (pronounced: Zar-rye-a-this) is actually a DJ who produces hardhouse and techno dance music with a science fiction and metal twist to it. You will be able to download individual songs, and the albums that Zaryathus creates from this blog for free. This is recommended for any hardhouse fan, but definately those who are also into metal and/or science fiction.

Band of The Week

Ok, so the internet was being a little screw ball last week and I never got to post of the band of the week. So I'm doing it now.

The band of the week for the week ending 25th October 2009 is a little different than what I'd normally put. They are a New Zealand band, and I'd recommend that if you get the chance to go and see them, go and see them.

Well theyre a cover band, and a bloodly good one too. I saw them at the Kings Arms the other week and god damn it was a good gig. So the band of the week is....

Whole Lotta Led

As you may be able to guess, they are a Led Zeppelin cover band. Not that thats uncommon, but these guys are actually damn good. Solos dead on, bass is outstanding and even the vocals, which are bloodly hard to meet are 99% Robert Plant. And the drummer, well, this guy is just bloodly insane. You cant help but stop and stare as he plays. Hes brilliant.

The stage performance these guys put on is awesome, they dress and act like their Led Zeppelin counterparts, its just awesome.

Visit their myspace here. Theres a small clip of them playing but nothing much, you need to see them live!

TBD News

Due to some unfortunate events and timing, The Blue Devil is no long recording Burnt Me To The Ground in the next couple of weeks. However a song that has so far been used as a warm up when we practice will be recorded by Chris using a drum machine.

The song is an instrumental, heavy doom song and is mostly improvisational (especially the solos). However he aims to put down the main parts of the song and record new bits here and there. As of yet the name of the song is 'Legs', named after the finger movement I use for the odd sound throughout the song.

When the song is finished being recorded by Chris, and possibly Matt, we will upload the song onto the blog so that you will be able to download it for free!
